Foundations of Health Series in Four Parts: Sleep, Food, Exercise, Stress Management

This series is inspired by many mentors and teachers, and reinforced by my years in practice. I see over and over that without a solid foundation of healthy habits, working toward optimal health is much more complicated and confusing. These foundational habits and practices are a work in progress. How do I find and stick to routines that support my health?

This series is inspired by many mentors and teachers, and reinforced by my years in practice. I see over and over that without a solid foundation of healthy habits, working toward optimal health is much more complicated and confusing. These foundational habits and practices are a work in progress. How do I find and stick to routines that support my health?

The goal of this series is helping each of us to think about the Foundations of Health, and how focusing on them day in and day out, will help achieve health. The details of how to go about it vary from person to person, and that variety is what I love about this work. It keeps me showing up happy to work day after day! In many ways I hope you walk away from this class full of more questions than answers, eager to explore how you can build healthy habits into your life. I hope you will join me for this four part series exploring the Foundations of Health.

Class 1: Sleep

$35.00 - Recorded October 20, 2021

The first in the series will discuss SLEEP, a fundamental necessity for human health. Without adequate and restorative sleep, little else can heal. And yet, the most frustrating thing ever is to know you need it, and not be able to figure out how to get it. There are so many reasons why we don’t or can’t sleep enough, or get quality sleep. We will discuss some basics around sleep at all ages, sleep hygiene, trouble shoot some common sleep problems, and offer some general practices to support sleep quantity and quality.

Class 2:

$35.00 - Recorded November 3, 2021

The second class in the series will discuss FOOD. Such a difficult topic. There are so many opinions, ideas, books, blogs, podcasts, and friends and relatives with ideas about how to eat in a way that supports health. And then what feels like good food choices don’t always correlate with body shape, energy level, satisfaction, and health, making it almost impossible to solely think our way through the complex question. How do I feed myself in the best way for my body? We will discuss some details about the pros and cons of popular diets, and how to navigate food choices.

Class 3: Exercise

$35.00 - Recorded November 24, 2021

In the third class we will discuss EXERCISE. I have a couple simple rules about exercise; it should be enjoyable when you are doing it, and you should feel better when it is over. We will talk about what “enjoyable exercise” means, and the positive benefits of it that create a sustainable habit. Recent research shows that activity level matters more than weight, for prevention of chronic disease. The number on the scale and societal expectation about body shape are largely irrelevant to risk for heart disease, diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer’s, and all causes of death. But activity matters! We will talk about how to begin and sustain exercise.

Class 4: Stress Management

$35.00 - Recorded December 1, 2021 at 7pm

In the fourth and final class in the series we will discuss STRESS MANAGEMENT. The first three topics are important for healthy management of stress but since those are a work in progress, we often need more support around managing stress. How do I bring stress management habits into my daily life in a way that is supportive for me?
